Opel Karl and Vauxhall Viva
And Mexico still gets the previous-gen Spark sold as the Chevrolet Beat, and it’s even available as a sedan

Isnt the bottom one something like a Chevy Sonic or Echo or whatever its called?
I see Karls running around town here, they’re neat, little cars. I think I'd personally go for a Picanto or a Up! Over a Karl, but I dont hate it in terms of looks. Its just a bit....bland.

Let’s just take a moment and appreciate the body-colored B-pillar on the Beat. There aren’t many of those left. In the USA I think the only new cars still on sale with body colored B-pillars are the soon-to-be-dead Versa sedan (base trim only) and Frontier plus the Wrangler/Gladiator (though you could argue that doesn’t count as a B-pillar because convertible).

I think I like the hidden door handles on the US Spark better. Some cars pull it off better than others.

I don't really know why Opel even bothered selling the Karl here while offering the Adam at the same time. They might have not been in the same category but I guess GM forced Opel to sell the lackluster Karl next to the Adam. Shows how out of touch GM was with Opel.

The Daewoo/Chevy is cheap, generic and practical (for its class). The Adam is none of those things and can be had with a premium interior. Same size segment, different target demographic.

But people went for Up! and Picanto rather than Karl. At least I got the impression by seeing more Adams than Karls (better than naming your car ARS3 55 3.0T FSI Quattro Ultra S-Line)

The Adam and the Karl are named after the founder of Opel’s sons. Which is why the first of the two, the Adam is shared with the Vauxhall variant but Vauxhall then said, we’re not naming the second, Karl. They are Opel’s history, not Vauxhall’s so Vauxhall brought back an old name not used for some time, Viva.
Which is a shame as the Viva from the 1970s, etc... was a classic little car with people having fond memories, only the name now being used for this little econobox.

I was coming in here just to say “at least they didn’t try to make it a sedan!”
Seriously.

Interesting — I never actually liked those, but for practical reasons: that’s how I close the door. Black (flat or gloss) are easy to clean, but body color keeps fingerprints, makeup, grease , dirt, etc looking very obvious.
It’s one of the only cases where I find body color equal to “low end”

I actually prefer blacked out pillars as well in general I just think it’s interesting that pretty much everything has gone that way. Body-color B-pillars used to be fairly common.
